It's tea time!

Tea, "karipap" (pastry with curried potatoes filling) and a piece of
sweet "kuih bakar pandan". No, not the pandanus used for making mats,
its pandanus amaryllifolus, the one with scented (reminiscent to fresh
hay) leaves, used in cooking to impart flavor and green color.

I went to a motorshow in KL. Lotsa cars, lotsa car ambassadors.. but
only one pink vehicle. The one and only heheh..

Dishes for dinner

What I had for dinner earlier tonight. Stir fried long beans with
squid, and shrimp with chilli paste. Took these with rice, the usual
staple diet in SEA.

Omigod... I owe ookine the recipe!

Squid and vege stir fry.

2 cloves of garlic, chopped finely
1 onion, sliced
red pepper/chilli, sliced
3 or 4 cleaned squids, sliced
long beans (as much as you like), cut any which way you want..
3 tablespoon of vege oil (I use palm oil).

Cook it like this!
Heat the wok/pan with the vege oil.
Throw in the garlic, onions, pepper/chilli and stir around until the aroma hits you ;-)
then roll in the squid.. until they looked cooked. I f you never cook them before, let it cook for 2 or 3 minutes.
stir in the long beans for about 2 minutes.
add salt to taste
and cracked pepper if you like.

I do stir fries a lot lot because its quick to make.

Spicy Prawn Recipe.

15 prawns or a bowl full.
3 to 4 tbsp oil
1 big onion sliced
Ground and combined:
5 shallots
3 cloves garlic

half a cup of chilli paste
2 tsp tamarind paste
1 cup of coconut milk
or you can use half a cup of skimmed milk too.
1/2 tsp salt or to taste
1 tsp sugar

Wash and trim prawns neatly but leave shells intact. You can take the shells off but its really the shell that makes it more sweeter to taste. Set aside.

Heat a wok (or any cooking pot/pan you can find) with oil until hot. Sautee onions, grounded garlic and shallots till aromatic, Add chilli paste and stir around for 2 minutes, Add sugar and salt. Add a little water (or coconut milk) if ingredients get too dry.

Add prawns and bring to a boil. Add tamarind paste ( made from mixing and straining 2 tsp tamarind pulp and 2 tsp water). If you dont have tamarind pulp, just put in 3 tsp of tomato sauce. Cover and cook until prawns turn red. Stir well then dish out and serve.

It is a simplified recipe. The whole works wouldve involved fermented shrimp cake, galangal, lemongrass, turmeric and whatnots. I dip bread into this and also take this with rice.
