crazy folk music, flirty old men, cheap beer, dancing toddlers, delicious fish and beautiful sunsets.
and to think, most of the the other brits were round the corner in the resort watching american wresting on telly in the "brit pub", waiting for the covers band to start and talking about lady di.
let me explain. two weeks ago i had a bit of a melt-down at a daddy long legs gig in yorkshire. totally forgot how to play the guitar on stage and had some kind of gin-related stage fright catatonic wig out that was one of the most excrucuatingly embarassing experiences of my life.
afterwards, i ran to the top of a steep hill in the dark, got lost coming down and wandered blindly on the moors for two and half hours during which time i fell down a hole and broke my ribs. when i got back i told jamielonglegs that i wanted to end daddy long legs. it had been on my mind for a while but i hadn't expected to do anything about it. i was surprised to hear the words coming out of my mouth, and given the recent performance, was perhaps less surprised to hear jamie agree to call it a day (pending finishing recording's we're currently working on).
whichever way you look at it, it wasn't the greatest weekend of my life so far.
so after a bit of a debrief and catching up at work i took my broken ribs off to tenerife for a week of quiet contemplation and started thinking about life after daddy. it feels very weird after four years and such high hopes. but it also feels like the rigt thing to be doing.
anyway, here's a few more pics from my quietly contemplative week of reading, scribbling, sipping and whale watching in los gigantes.
bit more elusive and flighty than the whales. i was endlessly amazed at how clear, blue and calm the water was.

the sights of oxford whilst loading in at the fabulous jericho tavern in oxford last weekend. great venue. we had grilled tuna in a chip shop and then tried a bit of deep fried mars bar. we were so excited to be ordering it that the girl invited us behind the counter to witness the frying process. it tasted horrific.
i grew up in hatfield/welwyn garden city some time after this edition went to print. still found it interesting when i saw this for sale in camden market at the weekend.
