so i finally got round to buying the last umberto eco novel that i haven't read (the mysterious flame of queen loana).
i'm going to try and read this one as slowly as i can, savouring every word because when it's gone there'll be no new ones to read. well, until he writes another one.
i think my all time favourite would have to be baudolino, probably followed by the island of the day before, foucault's pendulum and the name of the rose.
although in a different mood i could probably reverse that list or mix it up any old way. it's fair to say i'm a fan.
yep, it's definitely the S-P-O-N of some kind of malevolant extra-terrertrial being. probably with acid for blood, a pointy brain-probe in it's chest and the ability to assume the shape of eva hertzigova.
could be frog, could be some kind of monster. hard to say this early on. i'll keep you you posted. posted on the S-P-O-N!
...not quite the dead of night, more like quarter to six in the evening.
it was rather lovely though.
we started work on the new tacticians album at the weekend. well the guys never really stopped writing as such, we just stopped working on new stuff while we were promoting the first album. so we spent saturday back in the old rehearsal room (under the watchful eye of frankie) playing though some new songs and starting to think about arrangements. the new songs seem to fall into two distinct categories: repetitive, minimal riff things and really low-key country-ish songs. personally, i couldn't be happier with that turn of events. so far i've been put in mind of wilco circa being there, and a ghost is born. we definitely don't want to over-think the arrangements and we want to record while it's still fresh. i think there's some really great stuff here and lots more songs and ideas starting to emerge. it's just brilliant to be playing again. blister city, but still brill.

i like it when a big ship is bringing a load into the dock here at blackfriars the tugs run up and down all day dragging barges up past the bridge and doing giant u-turns. then they moor half of the barges just outside my window while they unload the first lot then come back for the rest.
