Hakodate morning market

(viewed 2713 times)
Mainly seafood, as you'd expect from a harbour town. Note that picture 4 is of a restaurant window display, and shows the certificate for the patent they've taken out on the Dancing Don next to it - their name for a donburi rice dish with a LIVE FRICKIN' SQUID stuck on the top of it.

Hakodate appears to have been big on food, doesn't it? Never really noticed that until now.

Jingisukan

Mongolian barbecue dish popular across Hokkaido: heat up a grill shaped like Genghis Khan's hat (hence the name), and throw raw lamb on top of it until it's done. There's even a pop song about it.

Oh, I'm a sucker for inappropriately anthropomorphised signs, I know.

Lucky Pierrot restaurant, Hakodate

(viewed 1718 times)
Lucky Pierrot is a chain of burger bars scattered across Hakodate. Unusually, they're not all identical: each branch has been allowed to cultivate its own style. The one near Jujigai tram stop, for example, has Christmas decorations and Christmas music all year round.
