Design is easy.....?

Always on the look out for design/film/animation/photo taking inspiration - Oh, and travel ideas, (although anything in Japan will always win hands down for me). Currently based in the North East of Scotland.

Holga, Holga, Holga!

Got my film back - and second time around I didn't do half as badly! Love the inkpots shot, and the ones taken from Duncan of Jordanstone's tower block. Will get them scanned in soon, but couldn't resist posting this quick peek. :)

crafty day

Got invited to former Gray's textile student, Rachael's craft afternoon at the RGU union. Made corsages/brooches/hair accessories. Would pay about £8-£10 in Topshop or something for one of these. Made loads for hardly anything! Plus they had made traybakes (that was the initial reason Helen and I went!) Really easy. And I'm normally rubbish at stuff like this.

Japan - Week 2 part 2

Finally managed to cool down by visiting the Tokyo icebar in Shimbashi. This is becoming holiday tradition. :) Was fantastic though, after all that heat, even in strappy shoes! Then off to Ebisu for a Yebisu beer. We also visited some great print and digital design exhibitions. Roppongi's design hub had some great Japanese print work (Couldn't take photo's though, and the ICC's 'Open Space' exhibition in Shibuya had an interactive exhibition on, similar to the V&A;'s Decode earlier this year. My favourite was 'Tenth Sentiment' a tiny toy train with an LED light on it that went around a train track in a completely darkened room, passing everyday objects and making them throw weird, wonderful and scary shapes on the walls around you. Just brilliant. Finally the video shows the epic Shibuya crossing, often the crossing you see in photos and film footage of Tokyo. Every few minutes hundreds of people cross here from all angles - and navigating it can be a nightmare!

Japan - Week 2 part 1

Went to Nikko last weekend - about 2 hours out of Tokyo, and saw the Toshogu shrine, Rinno-ji temple and the Futarasan shrine. Back in Tokyo we had beautifully decorated eclairs in the sun in the Marunouchi district, and then caught the train to Shimbashi and Shibuya for a few drinks. As always I love their packaging - this is bath salts just done so nicely.
