Hello again,

Another day of travelling nearly over and I just had to share my excitement for tomorrow's national Poppy Appeal launch....

It's all a bit hush hush at the moment so I can't tell you where I'm going to be, but I can say that it's going to be big!

Keep your eyes peeled for me!

I had no idea that my activities this week would cause such a stir, but look, here I am in
The Telegraph and The Daily Express!

Many thanks to my Poppy Appeal friends for pointing these out, but really, I can’t read the articles without feeling a bit embarrassed! I’m just happy that people might see these and be persuaded to buy a poppy this year.

In fact, buying poppies has turned into a bit of a debate lately! The Telegraph has revealed that people seem to be getting hold of our red flowery friends earlier and earlier these days, but that can only be a good thing when the Christmas decorations are already in the shops!

The first sighting on television was made on Monday at BBC News 24.When did you see your first poppy this year? I’d love to know :)

Henley on Thames Launch

(viewed 1440 times)

Just a note to say that later today I'm going to be in Bedford Town Centre. You can catch me at the launch at 11am. Hope lots of people can come along - it's a beautiful day for the parade of standards!

I've put up a nice snap of the Henley on Thames launch. Brian Hughes served in the Royal Army Service Corps in Egypt in the fifties has been collecting for the Poppy Appeal for 13 years! That's dedication for you. Here he is giving Councillor Gill Zakss a poppy in exchange for a £10 donation at Henley Rugby Club.

Hi again,

Well, what a day I've had - I've only just had a chance to sit down!

I met HRH Princess Anne (or Annie, as I now like to call her); I got so star-struck I needed to keep reminding myself why I was there! I nearly forgot to give a royal bow...whoops!

Anne and me started off this year’s appeal at Kemble Airport and watching in the crowd were none other than Tina Thompson and her three-year-old son Aidan. They both feature on one of our campaign posters (our real stars). Tina’s husband Mick died in a car accident three years ago while working as an Army chef in Cyprus, so the Royal British Legion has since stepped in to lend a hand. I think they were pleased to see such a good turn-out. I know I was!

Before I knew it it was time to make my way to Exeter Racecourse. There I met Ben McBean and David Hart. Ben’s a Royal Marine who now has an artificial arm and leg after suffering wounds inflicted by a Taliban landmine in Afghanistan. He was just five months into his first tour of duty. David was injured by a suicide bomb while serving with the Territorial Army in Kabul in 2004. Despite both having had to go through such a horrible time, Ben and David have fantastic spirits and are certainly an inspiration to anyone lucky enough to meet them.

Take a look at some pictures you lot sent in of our friends with their poppies! Don't forget to buy yours! :)

The Duke of Gloucester!

(viewed 1374 times)
Well, there I was, ready to start the long journey out of London and into Gloucestershire when who should I bump into but the Duke of Gloucester!

He was on Bell Street to open the new British Legion Club, and I couldn't resist stopping by to have a look around! The Duke took me to one side and gave me some much-needed advice for my important meeting later today....
