This is my personal blog, not a venue for saleable images. In fact, because it's here that I share things that are important to me with the members of the moblog community, photo quality's not my priority. Events, occasions, achievements, thoughts, trips and experiments - you'll find them all here. Contact me for the development version of my photo portfolio, for a selection of saleable images or visit my dance photography blog or my website for cuttings. And remember that all photos remain my copyright unless I've specifically said otherwise.

"The grand show is enternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never dried all at once; a shower is forever falling; vapour is ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal dawn and gloaming, on sea and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls."

"The bicycle is the most civilised conveyance known to man. Other forms of transport grow daily more nightmarish. Only the bicycle remains pure in heart."

Lesson with Anton

Still loving my job..
I did the interview for this on Sunday for Dance Today.

last Wednesday

(viewed 1296 times)
I went to my doctor. I'm still desperately tired and still get hot and cold sweats which I assume are some kind of fever. I asked for her to arrange a general blood test with the Hospital for Tropical Diseases to see if I had picked anything else while out there.

She asked me what she needed to do. I answered that I didn't know, but that the HTD needs a referral. She asked what forms they'd need. I said I didn't know, would she like me to look it up on the internet. She laughed and said no, that someone would call me.

Today I called the doctor because I've heard nothing. I got the receptionist who has been there most time. She said she had been having problems... "I looked it up on the internet and the thing is, people normally die from it. They don't get better. So we don't know what to do..."
"So what do you suggest I do then?"
"When someone wanted to go there in the past we just told them to go to Out Patients. It's like a normal hospital. You just turn up."

...So she didn't bother to tell me that she wasn't going to do anything for what she thought was a life threatening situation. Now Dengue Fever is only a killer if it comes with a headache. On the other hand if there is any possibility that I might have yellow fever (starts with similar symptoms but is unlikely.... I hope.. since I don't appear to be yellow) I'm lucky to be alive now but could die at any time.

But it doesn't stop there. I looked at the internet site for the HTD (again), saw the same requirements for a doctors' referral letter and telephoned them to confirm. Guess what. They need a referral letter before they'll see me and give me the tests I think I need.

So I've called the doctor, told them I don't want to die waiting for them to call me back and I'm about to drop a formal letter of complaint in right now.

I'm pretty sure I don't have yellow fever but think I still have something. People who know me say they've never seen me this tired looking and run down.

You'll have an idea about just how tired, angry and scared I am from the fact that I've never posted anything like this before.

And there's more..... in the extremely unlikely event that I kick the bucket before I get to see anyone, I'm relying on this internet post to make sure that responsibility is allocated firmly where it belongs.

these were sent by friends recently. I only understood why they had been worried about me when I saw what I must have looked like to them!
